Comparison

CoinGlass vs SmartMoneyAPI

CoinGlass and SmartMoneyAPI solve different problems. CoinGlass is a data and research platform you read. SmartMoneyAPI is a pre-trade confirmation layer your bot calls before it enters — one request returns CONFIRM, REDUCE, or SKIP. This page is an honest look at when to use which.

Who each is for

CoinGlass. CoinGlass is a broad derivatives-data dashboard and API: funding rates, open interest, long/short ratios, liquidation heatmaps, options and ETF data across a large number of exchanges, plus its own Hyperliquid whale tracker. Traders use it to read the market across many venues in one place.

SmartMoneyAPI. A decision-support API for automated crypto strategies. Your bot already has a candidate direction; one call to /v1/confirm checks it against derivatives, funding, open interest, whale consensus and on-chain context, then returns a single action your code can branch on. It does not place orders — you stay in control of execution and risk.

Descriptions of CoinGlass are our neutral summary of a third-party product, sourced from their own site on 2026-09-23, and may change; check their site for current capabilities. This is not a claim that SmartMoneyAPI is better overall — it is a different, lighter, decision-focused tool.

The honest wedge

CoinGlass is the closest rival by subject matter, and far broader: 30 futures venues against the 8 in our own derivatives store, and 80–160+ endpoints against our handful of composite endpoints. It also runs its own Hyperliquid whale tracker, so we do not claim whale positioning as unique. Where the entry tiers actually line up: CoinGlass’s Hobbyist plan and our Trader plan are both $29/mo at 30 requests/min — a fair like-for-like. The difference that holds up is shape: we return one bounded decision (five states, below) with a published null result instead of raw tables you assemble and interpret yourself, and we have a $0 free tier where CoinGlass’s cheapest API plan is $29/mo. Use CoinGlass to research broadly across venues; use /v1/confirm to gate the entry.

What the confirmation call looks like

Your strategy produces a candidate direction; this single call validates it before you send the order.

confirm.py
import os, requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.smartmoneyapi.com/v1/confirm",
    params={"symbol": "BTC", "direction": "long", "source": "my-bot"},
    headers={"X-API-Key": os.environ["SMA_API_KEY"]},
    timeout=10,
)
sig = r.json()

if sig["action"] in ("CONFIRM_FULL", "CONFIRM_REDUCED"):
    qty = 0.01 * sig["size_mult"]   # HIGH -> CONFIRM, MEDIUM -> REDUCE
    # ... your code places (or sizes down) the order
else:  # CONFIRM_MINIMAL, VETO_SKIP, or NO_DATA_SKIP
    pass # market context does not support this trade, or the symbol has no data yet

action is one of five values — CONFIRM_FULL, CONFIRM_REDUCED, CONFIRM_MINIMAL, VETO_SKIP, or NO_DATA_SKIP (no derivatives or whale data exists for the symbol at all — deliberately not the same as “we looked and it’s bad”). We publish the model’s own out-of-sample result on the /v1/confirm page: derivatives, whale and combined signals all landed in the 49–52% band in leakage-free walk-forward testing — a coin flip. /v1/confirm still blends the signal, because it is a bounded pre-trade check, not a forecast. Both sides publish real numbers. Our tiers are read live from api_service/plans.json. CoinGlass’s Hobbyist and Startup plans are labelled “Personal use” on their own pricing page; Standard and Professional are labelled “Commercial use”. Our terms (§8.3) grant personal or internal business use — including powering your own bots and apps — on every tier, including Free; we do not use the word “commercial” anywhere in our terms, so read each side’s own wording rather than a one-line comparison. CoinGlass figures are our best current read of coinglass.com/pricing and can change on their side without notice.

Data coverage & asset support

SmartMoneyAPI

  • Derivatives store across 8 venues; the /v1/confirm composite blends 3 of them into one read
  • 16,000+ tracked whale wallets, sourced from a multi-timeframe leaderboard
  • On-chain metrics, options flow, ETF flows and news/macro intelligence in the same API
  • BSC and Avalanche DEX intelligence off our own full nodes (Enterprise tier)

CoinGlass

  • 30 futures venues, 11 spot venues and 4 options venues per their own FAQ (marketing copy says “30+”)
  • Funding, open interest, long/short ratio, liquidation heatmaps, options and ETF data
  • A dedicated Hyperliquid whale tracker with real-time alerts
  • 80+ to 160+ data endpoints depending on pricing level; per-minute limits across the same four levels range from 30 up to 1,200

CoinGlass covers far more venues and ships visual dashboards; SmartMoneyAPI covers fewer venues but returns one decision your code can act on directly, plus BSC/Avalanche on-chain intelligence on our Enterprise tier. Pick based on whether you want the broadest raw dataset to browse, or a bot-callable gate.

Real-time capabilities

CoinGlass states “Updates ≤ 1 min” across its plans. SmartMoneyAPI is built for programmatic, low-latency signals: whale events arrive over websocket in roughly a second and the derivatives store refreshes continuously, though a full sweep of all 16,000+ tracked wallet positions takes on the order of 5–6 hours — treat whale-event alerts as real-time and the full position snapshot as an hours-scale picture. If your workflow needs a decision at the moment of trade rather than a dashboard refresh, that gap is the whole point of this page.

API design & integration

SmartMoneyAPI is plain REST with a consistent JSON schema across endpoints, daily and per-minute caps set per tier (4 to 500 req/min across Free through Enterprise), and a composite call like /v1/confirm or /v1/whale-consensus returns a blended read in one request. CoinGlass’s own pricing page lists 80+ to 160+ REST endpoints across its four published levels, with priority email support on the two cheapest and priority chat on the priciest; their per-minute limits climb from 30 up to 1,200 as the price rises. Both sides publish their limits plainly; ours are fixed per tier and shown in full on our pricing page.

Pros & cons, briefly

SmartMoneyAPI

+ One bounded decision call your code can branch on directly, a $0 free tier, internal business use on every tier per our terms (§8.3)

− Far fewer venues (8 vs. CoinGlass’s 30) and no visual dashboards — we return decisions, not charts to browse

CoinGlass

+ Broadest venue and endpoint coverage of any rival researched, visual dashboards, its own Hyperliquid whale tracker

− No bounded pre-trade decision endpoint — you read and interpret the data yourself; no free API tier; entry tiers labelled “Personal use”

The verdict

Reach for SmartMoneyAPI if you

  • Trade derivatives/perpetuals and need a pre-trade CONFIRM/REDUCE/SKIP call
  • Want a $0 tier to start, with internal business use on every tier, including Free
  • Also need BSC/Avalanche DEX intelligence (Enterprise tier)

Reach for CoinGlass if you

  • Want the broadest possible raw dataset across 30+ exchanges to browse manually
  • Need visual dashboards and liquidation heatmaps rather than a single decision
  • Already track Hyperliquid whales through their dedicated tracker

Many teams use both: CoinGlass to survey the market broadly, SmartMoneyAPI’s /v1/confirm to gate the live entry.
